8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medications have actually been seized by Department of Health authorities during a search of a home in Glengormley.

A male was spoken with by department officers about unlawfully importing and consequently supplying unlicensed impotence medications through the internet.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medication offenses.

He will now be the subject of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its office, Peter Moore, stated: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be unsafe.

"These kinds of products being offered, normally online, have undergone no quality control and there can be no warranty about their security.

"You simply do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More importantly, you do not understand the result drugs like this might have on your health."
